Pantry also: match any audio file, build kits from your library, suggest sounds for a collection, and filter to sounds you’ve never played.

Cost over time

Pantry costs €29 once. Loopcloud is a monthly subscription. Here's what that looks like over time with Loopcloud's EUR pricing:

  • After 5 months: Loopcloud Artist (€6.99/mo) reaches €34.95, already past Pantry's one-time €29.
  • After 1 year: Loopcloud Artist costs €83.88. Studio costs €131.88. Professional costs €239.88.
  • After 3 years: Loopcloud Artist totals €251.64. Studio totals €395.64. Professional totals €719.64.

Loopcloud's subscription does include download points for purchasing samples from their store, so some of that cost goes toward content acquisition. But if you're paying primarily to manage samples you already own, the maths is one-sided. Pantry is also free below 15,000 samples, so for smaller libraries the comparison is €0 vs a recurring subscription.

Loopcloud range is Artist to Professional at monthly prices; plans include store points Pantry doesn't have.

Offline and privacy

Pantry runs entirely on your machine. Samples are never uploaded, there's no account to sign into, and the app doesn't phone home. Loopcloud is cloud-connected by design. Browsing the store, downloading samples, and syncing your library across machines all require an internet connection and a logged-in account. Once samples are cached locally, Loopcloud can work offline for playback, but the primary workflow assumes you're online. As of Loopcloud 7, the desktop app itself requires an active subscription to open.

Whose content

Loopcloud is built around a sample store with over four million sounds. That's a genuine strength if you're building a collection from scratch or want to discover new content. But the app's design reflects that orientation: management of your own local files is a secondary feature, available only to paying subscribers, and you lose access to it if you cancel.

Pantry has no store. It exists for one purpose: organising and finding the samples already on your hard drive. Every feature (watch folders, semantic search, boolean operators, find-similar, collections, duplicate flagging) is aimed at making your existing library more useful.

A kit built only from samples you already own.

When Loopcloud is the better choice

If you want a sample store integrated into a management tool, Loopcloud is purpose-built for that. The catalogue is large, the previewing workflow is polished, and download points let you accumulate new content every month. Loopcloud's DAW plugins (Sounds, DRUM, and PLAY) let you browse, audition, and build patterns without leaving your session, including tempo-synced and key-locked previews. The cloud storage feature syncs your library across multiple machines, which is useful if you work across a studio desktop and a laptop. And the 8-track editor lets you layer, chop, and process samples before committing them to a project. If you're building a collection from the ground up and want an all-in-one acquisition and management platform, Loopcloud delivers that in a way Pantry doesn't attempt to.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pantry sell samples?

No. Pantry has no store, no sample catalogue, and no marketplace. It exists solely to manage, search, and organise the samples you already have on your hard drive.

Can Loopcloud manage my local samples?

Yes, but only with an active paid subscription. Loopcloud can import your local sample library and run AI analysis on it. However, if you cancel your subscription, you lose access to the app's features including importing new local content, AI tagging, and the 8-track editor. The sample files themselves remain on your hard drive.

What happens to my Loopcloud library if I unsubscribe?

Any samples you downloaded through Loopcloud remain on your hard drive and can be used in any DAW. You own those files. However, as of Loopcloud 7, the desktop app requires an active subscription to use. Without a subscription, you lose access to the app's management features, cloud storage, AI tagging, and the ability to import new local content. Unused download points are retained but can only be spent while your subscription is active.

Is Pantry a subscription?

No. Pantry is free up to 15,000 samples. If your library exceeds that, a one-time payment of €29 unlocks unlimited samples permanently. There are no recurring fees, no renewal, and no features locked behind a subscription tier.
